Early Life

Phathutshedzo ‘Phathu’ Makwarela was born in Mamvuka village in Limpopo, South Africa.

He was born on the 26th of July in 1984.

His parents wished he could be a renowned engineer.

This made them enrol him at S.J. Van Der Merwe Technical High School in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo, where he did motor mechanics and passed.

Establishing himself in the industry has not been an easy thing for Phathutshedzo ‘Phathu’ Makwarela. He started as an intern at Soul City and then as a writer at Muvhango, has written scripts for several most-watched South African telenovelas.

Phathutshedzo ‘Phathu’ Makwarela always works together with Gwydion Beynon, and this has made a lot of people use their closeness to mean they are partners or lovers. His partnership with Gwydion Beynon can be traced to 2013 when the Ferguson Films of Shona Ferguson asked them to be head writers for Mzansi Magic’s Rockville.
